Bringing History to Life!

Dear Friends —

We love to share our excitement and awe at the amazing stories that we publish. To help do that, we bring the stories to life in as many ways as we can.

The stories themselves are, of course, the starting point. To provide a visual immediacy to the words, we make extensive use of photos, maps and other illustrations when we create our books. Often we spend as much or more time researching and licensing the visual elements as in the editorial process. For some books, we’ve also created a video trailer to capture the essence of the story in a few short minutes.

Interior design of the book is critical to how the story is experienced by a reader. We pride ourselves on a clean, elegant style that makes our books easy to read.

We also like to help orient the reader in the history behind the book. So we usually include a thumbnail sketch of the background context of the story in a section we call “Historical Horizon.”

For most of our books we’ve developed live, multimedia programs, a couple of which involve an actor or actress, that have been performed in many different venues, from libraries, museums and classrooms, to local clubs, embassies and consulates.

Taking that “bringing alive” element one step further, we’ve started to include a multimedia element in a print book, which we call “Digital Extras.” They’re short videos that we created from original historical film and audio material, which are accessed directly by smartphone via QR codes or in your browser via URL.

Thanks for your interest in our titles! We welcome questions and suggestions, so please feel free to email us.

Happy Reading!

Best,
