2011 ASEEES ANNUAL CONVENTION
November 17–20, 2011

aquilapolonicabooth1-pict0024-r 2011 marked our second year exhibiting at the ASEEES Annual Convention (ASEEES is the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies, in case you wondered). This year we were in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., which gave us a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Polish Embassy and other Washington-area friends.

aquilapolonicabooth2-pict0027-r We were happy to see some familiar faces and renew acquaintances from last year’s ASEEES convention, and to meet a lot of new people as well!

As a bonus, Jarek Garlinski and Alice Waydenfeld Faintich were able to join us this year, and helped out with “booth duty.”

Jarek translated our book 303 Squadron: The Legendary Battle of Britain Fighter Squadron, which won the top Gold Award for History at the 2011 Benjamin Franklin Awards, and our forthcoming book The Auschwitz Volunteer: Beyond Bravery.

Alice is the daughter of Dr. Stefan Waydenfeld, author of our award-winning book The Ice Road: An Epic Journey from the Stalinist Labor Camps to Freedom, and has been doing a lot of presentations about the Siberian deportations exemplified in her father’s book.

In addition, George and Aleksandra Kulczycki flew in from London. George and Aleksandra are great favorites at ASEEES – after 30 after so years, they seem to know everyone! They have generously funded the annual Jerzy and Aleksandra Kulczycki Book Prize, which is awarded jointly by ASEEES and the Polish Studies Association for the best original book published outside Poland in English (i.e., not a translation) dealing with any aspect of Polish Studies.
